Walk in a beginner, walk out having actually fenced. Here’s exactly what your first class looks like.

WE START AT EN GARDE

You don’t need to know a lunge from a parry. The class assumes you’ve never held a blade — your coach walks you through the salute, the stance and the footwork from the very first step.

WE PROVIDE THE EQUIPMENT

Mask, jacket, glove, and sabre are all provided for your first class. Just wear athletic clothing and clean indoor running shoes.

ROUGHLY 20-30 MINS

BEGINNER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

None at all. The free class and the Beginner Program are both built for people who have never fenced. You’ll start with the absolute fundamentals — the salute, en garde, and basic footwork — and build from there.

Comfortable athletic clothing and a clean pair of indoor running shoes — outdoor shoes aren’t allowed on the floor. We provide the mask, jacket, glove and sabre.

Yes. Fencing is done in a mask, jacket and glove built for the sport, and every beginner session starts with safety and blade control before any real bouts. It’s far gentler than most people expect.

From 6 years old. Kids aged 6–12 and the 13-and-up group train at separate times, so everyone learns alongside others at a similar stage.

If you enjoy it, the natural next step is the 4-week Beginner Program ($180, equipment included), coached by Nik Lavorato. There’s no obligation — the free class is genuinely free.
